The box office success of this trashy rom-com during a pandemic should frighten anyone concerned about Indian cinema's future. Is this the sort of substandard cinema we want to see flourish in the post-pandemic period, when audiences, hypothetically, return to the movies... Is it possible to see this??? Rang De is the sort of ramshackle he-loves-she-loves-they-love-not gibberish that was popular in the 1970s. Rang De reminded me of Akkineni Nageswara Rao's unnerving scorn for Vanisri in the 1977 Telugu smash Aalu Magalu, even though she continues to adore him unreservedly. That was done by female characters in films. They continue to do so. Doormats are an item that will never go out of style.
